The Exquisite Short Films of Kihachiro Kawamoto

Kihachiro Kawamoto is an animator who I just discovered last night when I watched two films from the above mentioned collection. They lived up to the billing. The first one, “Breaking of Branches is Forbidden”, 1968, 14 minutes, was just wonderful puppetry combined with stop action. Beware the dangers of drinking seems to be the moral of this story. The second example, “Anthropo-Cynical Farce” (Farce anthropo-cynique, 1970, 8 min., from a story by Riichi Yokomitsu), was a beautifully done stop action work, I didn’t quite get it but it seemed an attack materialism, maybe. If you like animation get this man’s work.
